7-Day Uganda Primate, Wildlife & Culture Adventure

The 7-day Uganda primate, wildlife and culture adventure begins and ends in Entebbe or Kampala. Your guide will pick you up from your hotel early in the morning and drive you to the southwestern part of the country through a verdant countryside. You may have a stopover at the traditional drum makers and for photos at the Equator. Stop for lunch at the Igongo Cultural Center Mbarara. Proceed south through the fascinating scenery of the Kigezi rolling hills, adorned with terraces. You will reach Bwindi Impenetrable Forest in the evening and check in at the booked lodge. The highlight of the day and one of the most exciting experiences - meeting the gentle gorillas of the mist! Have an early breakfast at 6:30 am and proceed to the park headquarters by 7:30 am for a briefing from the park rangers. Ensure to carry along a rain jacket, drinking water, snacks, and ankle-high jungle boots. The park rangers will allocate different gorilla families which you will track. Besides the gorillas, other animals such as antelopes, bush pigs, chimpanzees, baboons, and elephants can also be seen. The park is home to about 350 bird species. Take your lunch boxes and all the necessary gear to track the rare mountain gorillas. This is perhaps one of the most exciting wildlife experiences on earth. When you finally get to meet the gentle giants, remember: About 1 hour of tracking time, 5m distance, no contact, no running away in case of attack, and no flash photographs as silverbacks or dominant males may not like it. Have a Batwa community experience in the evening. We will drive through the countryside, passing through traditional homesteads and farms. Proceed to Queen Elizabeth National Park through the Northern part of the park (Ishasha sector). Look out for the tree-climbing lions resting in the fig trees. You may also be rewarded by the sight of elephants, waterbucks, and antelopes grazing in the Ishasha plains. Have lunch and continue to the upper part of the park at Kasenyi with an afternoon game drive. Retire and check in at your booked lodge. Take a 6:30 am game drive to catch up with the early risers like the leopard, lion, and spotted hyena among others. The park has a diverse ecosystem of grassland plains, tropical forests, rivers, swamps, lakes and volcanic craters. This makes it home to an incredible abundance of wildlife. As you take the Kasenyi trail, look out for buffalos, elephants, giraffes, warthogs, kobs, waterbucks, bushbucks, duikers, etc. You can also expect to see magnificent birdlife that includes the martial eagle, the woodland kingfisher, the great blue turaco, and the grey plantain eater. Up to 606 species have been recorded in the park. Return to the lodge for a late breakfast. After lunch, go for the afternoon launch cruise on the Kazinga Channel. This is home to a variety of waterbirds like the African fish eagle, skimmer, pelican, and the pre-historic-looking shoebill. On a hot day, hippos, elephants, buffaloes, waterbucks and crocodiles can be seen as they bathe and drink at the water's edge. After breakfast, you will transfer to Kibale Forest National Park, famed for its high population of primates in Africa and home to the chimpanzees. You will pass through Kasese town as you enjoy the captivating sight of the Rwenzori Mountain ranges decorating the skyline’s background. You'll arrive in Kibale in time for lunch. After lunch, you will embark on a nature walk through the Bigodi Wetland for primate and bird watching before returning to your lodge for your overnight stay. After an early breakfast, report to the park headquarters with your packed lunch for a briefing by the senior park guide. Proceed to track man’s closest relative of all the apes in this vast forest. Encounter other primates like olive baboons, bonobos, red colobus monkeys, black-and-white colobus monkeys, red and blue monkeys, and grey-cheeked mangabeys. You will also see a wide variety of birds. If time allows, you may take an optional evening visit to the crater lakes of Ndali. Retire for overnight at your lodge. You will check out from the lodge after breakfast and transfer back to Kampala. Drive through Mubende after an exciting Uganda primate and wildlife adventure. Take an optional visit to the Nakayima Tree which is believed to be the house of the goddess Nakayima and her spirits. Some locals visit her to seek her favor. Proceed with an en-route lunch in Mityana. You can have a brief tour around Kampala and end your 7-day adventure with some last-minute shopping. Thereafter, transfer to Entebbe Airport, arriving in time for your departure.
